This 2-day symposium focuses on the unique aspect of kidney disease in the tropics, the region with a high prevalence of kidney diseases and distinction for its heterogenicity. Main topics will include kidney diseases that have worldwide distribution and those that are secondary to factors unique to the tropics, e.g. climatic conditions, infectious agents, nephrotoxic plants, envenomations, and chemical toxins. The symposium also highlights the knowledge of kidney diseases and issues that are important for medical professionals in developing world, including innovative and cost-effective prevention, early treatment strategies, along with integrated and interprofessional care.
